The Johns Hopkins Technology Transfer Office (JHTT) is the University’s intellectual property administration center, serving Johns Hopkins researchers and inventors as a licensing, patent, and technology commercialization office and acting as an active liaison to parties interested in leveraging JHU research or materials for academic or corporate endeavors.

The primary functions of JHTT include:

  • Encouraging the disclosure of new ideas and discoveries and helping JHU researchers to identify patentable and copyrightable inventions and tangible research properties that might ultimately become commercial products and services;
  • Protecting and managing the University's intellectual and tangible property;
  • Licensing the University's technologies, facilitating collaborations between researchers, companies, and entrepreneurs interested in developing our innovations, and returning appropriate revenue to our laboratories;
  • Encouraging and supporting product development and entrepreneurial activities within the University;
  • Seeking and nurturing contacts with national and international companies and entrepreneurs that are capable of developing and commercializing our innovations for the public good.
